For the past year, Belinda Joyner has enthusiastically helped current and prospective Kean Ocean students as a student worker in Kean Ocean's administrative office. Belinda herself is a student in the B.A. in English, Teacher Certification Option, with a dual certification in Special Education. She is also the proud mother of five daughters: Felicia, 15; Alexandria, 13; Deonna, 11; Anna’Rebecca, 10, and Gabriella, 9.
So what are your career goals or aspirations?
I look forward to bringing a positive change to students’ lives at the high school level – students who might have slipped between the cracks, and who need inspiration and encouragement on their side. On the road to that path, I am not sure where I may start or end, but my immediate goal is to find fulltime employment in education, which would support my family.
What do you enjoy most about the Kean Ocean program?
Education with guidance and compassion, earning a degree that will better the lives of myself and my five daughters through an opportunity that began with The Displaced Homemakers Program on the Kean Ocean campus. The Kean Ocean campus is unique in that you are able to earn a bachelor’s degree from an esteemed university that is local and accessible, while maintaining a hometown personal experience here at the OCC campus.
The classes are small, the advisors and instructors are approachable and helpful, and counseling is available through the Career Counseling Center and programs such as The Displaced Homemakers Program. These programs gear themselves toward addressing the person as a whole in an effort to help him or her find accomplishment as a student leading toward a career and a rewarding, successful life.
What do you enjoy doing most in your free time?
No. 1: spending time with family!!! I enjoy reading and watching nature shows with the kids. I absolutely love the summer – swimming, hanging out on the beach, jumping waves and reading on the beach – all with the girls! I also enjoy spending time with our church, East Dover Baptist. In the summer, I teach at our Vacation Bible School – and the girls look forward to VBS every year!
