Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Kean University!

Fest Day with the Association of Latin American Students

In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, ALAS (Association of Latin American Students) at Kean University, hosted Fest Day on October 11, near the University Center basketball courts. Hundreds of students joined the celebration and participated in traditional Latin games, savored the flavors of Latin cuisine and learned about the various Latin countries – some of which are the homelands of their fellow students, faculty and staff. So be on the lookout for the colorful flags, decorations and ALAS members wearing traditional clothing representing various Latin countries. The event also featured the sounds of salsa, merengue, bolero, bachata and other folkloric dance, courtesy of a live band named Over.

"I heard the music from my dorm room... and I just had to come check it out!" said one student during a brief break from dancing. "I'm so glad I decided to join the fun."

Funded by Student Organization, the mission of ALAS is to unite, promote and spread the Latin culture to the Kean University community through intellectual and social activities among the students interested in the Latino culture and the welfare of the Latino students at Kean University.
